WHAT I’M DOING NOW

Updated August 28th, 2024, from Da Nang, Vietnam.

Solo in Vietnam

It’s getting late and I’m very tired, but here’s a quick update: after spending a couple of weeks in Türkiye with Silan, I am now in Vietnam and will be here for the next couple of weeks. Honestly, I wish I could stay longer, but some plans I previously made will prevent me from doing so.

First impressions of Vietnam: a value destination. You’d be hard-pressed to find another place that offers the same quality of food, first-world amenities, kind people, etc. for the same price. [getting sleepy, will continue tomorrow]

2024 PIANO GOALS

I learned to play the piano while I was living in Indonesia. When I first returned to the US in 2019 I learned to play a couple of songs in their entirety, but since then, I’ve had a pattern of learning to play 30-50% of a song and then quitting and moving on to a different song. This is a microcosm of my life in a sense — starting a lot of different projects and leaving them unfinished due to boredom or difficulty. So, this year, I want to focus on mastering just one song, in its entirety. The song I’ve chosen is this version of “Welcome Home, Son” by Radical Face. The transition at 1:55 fills my heart with joy and love. I can’t explain with words. This will be a challenge to learn, simply because—as far as I know—there is no sheet music or tutorial for this arrangement. I will have to learn by ear and by watching the video of the guy playing it. It will absolutely be worth it.
